The Freedom of Information Act (FOI) has recently celebrated its tenth birthday. A recent parliamentary report concluded that it had achieved its aims of increasing transparency and accountability across the public sector.
Sometimes though, too much openness can be a bad thing. The exemptions of the Act allow public authorities to protect information that if disclosed might cause unjustified harm to the authority itself, individuals or other bodies. However, applying them inappropriately can lead to adverse decisions from the regulator and reputational damage.
In this webinar, Paul Gibbons, best known for his FOI Man blog, takes you on a whistle-stop tour of the exemptions in the Freedom of Information Act, focussing on some of the most commonly used and using ICO and Tribunal decisions to illustrate their correct application.
