| CCTV is everywhere. The public and private sector use it to detect and prevent crime, monitor anti-social behaviour and protect their staff from abuse. From simple tape cameras through sophisticated digital systems to a new generation that talks as well as watches, the technology keeps moving. But CCTV remains hugely controversial, with the benefits constantly debated and disputed. CCTV is on the front-line of what the Information Commissioner dubs the “Surveillance Society”, and if your organisation uses it, you need to do so legitimately. How can CCTV cameras be used, and where should a responsible organisation draw the line? This practical course negotiates a maze of legislation including Data Protection, Human Rights and RIPA, and gives you a checklist for compliance. We will also cover the revised CCTV Data Protection Code and the new powers to use CCTV to enforce the parking laws.
